Bass saxophones must be in season...

Here's a Carl Fisher (Buescher) bass sax at http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1455519898, current bid $3,050.

A Selmer Mk VI bass sax at http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1457126035, current bid $US5.5K.  I wonder what it costs to ship from France?

Does anyone know what happened with the Conn F mezzo-soprano sax that was withdrawn (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1454699007)?

Thanks,

Grant

I know this is like finding a needle in a hay stack, but does anyone have any clue what happened to the "sub-contrabass" sax C.G. Conn made and traveled with? Or any other promo "sub-contrabasses"?
thanks

Would be fairly likely that you might get an idea from Dr. Margaret Downie
Banks at the Shrine To Music Museum in S. Dakota who wrote a book on C. G.
Conn's history.

Subject: [CB] Hello to the list from me...

Folks,

just thought I'd say hello, and ask if anyone in the UK knows where I can
get some interesting music for bass sax? Is it possible to get sax
quartet music featuring a bass sax in place of the baritone or similar?
Or a sax quintet perhaps, adding a bass to the usual line-up?

And can I find any interesting duets that would work for my bass or
baritone sax together with my father's contrabass (paperclip) clarinet?

I heard from someone that there is a club in the UK for bass saxophone
players, meeting occasionally in London. Can anyone tell me anything
about it? They might be interested to know that I've got what I think is
the only gold-plated Conn 14M bass keyed to high-F, made in 1935.
I haven't had the chance to make use of it yet...

Michael

A friend of mine is looking very much to get hold of that rare beast,
the F mezzo Conn-O-sax. If anybody knows of one for sale anywhere
in the world, please let me know!

thanks,

Michael

Subject: [CB] Sarrusophone and Rothophone on display...

Unfortunately, they're on display on a cruise ship...  Apparently, the decorating motif for the Holland America Cruise Lines ship "Zaandam" is music, and includes a number of authentic 19th century instruments (including a sarrusophone and a rothophone).  See http://www.cruisemates.com/articles/cruiseguide/ship-features/zaandam.cfm.  If you're interested in a cruise to Alaska, I guess there are worse ways to go...

Enjoy,

Grant
