Subject: [CB] Welcome Back!

I understand that all AOL subscribers are now back online.  Welcome back!  For anyone who may have missed the last few days, you may want to check back in the archives (see http://www.contrabass.com/contra-archive/c-arch.html for the index page) for what you missed.  I don't know if it was my ISP changing the IP address, or if enough subscribers complained to AOL, or if AOL spontaneously corrected their mail settings, but I understand that the list is now reaching all subscribers.

Enjoy,

Grant

Hi, gang,

I talked to Benedikt today, to ask about the ebay tubax. He knew about this, and had in fact sold the tubax direct to USA Horn , as he had two of the first batch. He was a little worried about this, because it looks to him as though the horn is on ebay because it is unsellable otherwise. I reassured him that in the states ebay is a legitimate marketplace for instruments, and is not only for things that people no longer want, or cannot sell otherwise. I sure hope I am right about this!!! Anybody got any input into this?

I also asked about the CC Sarrusophone , that is featured on the film music website in London. Benedikt made this to order, and there is only one so far built. What it says on the website about "maybe another in Leipzig" is wrong. Benedikt thinks that maybe because someone in the east was involved in the development, especially of the reeds, somebody got the idea that there was another instrument out there.

Apropos reeds, this instrument uses the same reeds as the " Kontraforte ", that Benedikt helped to design. This is the new model Contrabassoon , with a slightly larger bore, and improved design. The CC Sarrusophone has the same bore. Benedikt said something like "six point something mm" at the bocal, instead of the five that are normal for a contra. He will happily build more, to order, they would cost about 14,000 Euros, and take around a year to deliver. He's kind of busy, he said.

Work on the new bass sax is proceeding well, but as I'm not supposed to talk about this, I'll only say that he has definitely decided it will not have a low "A", because of the problems this causes with the bore, and the size of the bell.

Simon
