In the early days of valves, it was noted that valves are imperfect. This solution
was to have a separate bore for each valve combination. The Seven bell trombone.

For some reason, the concept failed.  Maybe the inconsistencies within one bore
dominated the small errors in valves.
Similarly the compensating valve system with its complex valving system.

I just got the Bassoon from my new High School, and to my horror, found a
huge crack all the way down the bell joint.  I can't seem to get out low Bb,
and everything is VERY sharp.  I practically have to inflate my cheeks to get
a semi-normal sound.  Does anyone know a temporary way to fix this.  I even
considered Duct Taping the crack, but the smarter half of me decided not to.
(It would mess up the horn and I don't think it would help any).  Well, any
help will be greatly appreciated.

Tell your director to fix it, of course. Unless you go to a school that is
big in seniority and won't do anything helpful for freshmen/sophmores (I
don't know what grade you are in), s/he should be happy to fix a defective
instrument.

"This also is very useful, especially after I discovered the little British
flag in the upper corner that provides one with (at least some of) the page
text in English.  After a quick search, I also found another Daniel Kientzy
CD, and a M. Heupel CD called "Flute News (Kontrabass)"..."

I think that I posted a review of M. Heupel's Flute News (Kontrabass) to the
list some time ago. It contains a version of SKB Slap (Subkontrabass Slap)
which is for subcontrabass flute in G. This is the only track for this
instrument on the CD the rest of which has stuff for alto, concert flute and
bass flute all unaccompanied and using extended techniques.
SKB Slap is entirely played using key clicks as far as I remebre with no
'normal' playing at all.

Yes, I remember that now that you mention it - just haven't been able to
find the CD before now.
