I just made that contrabassoon last summer.  It was shipped to the customer
at the end of last September.  I spoke with someone who knows the owner
yesterday and it sounds like the owner didn't really have any business
buying the thing to begin with.

By the way, Grant, I don't know what the reserve actually is, but it could
easily be in excess of 16K!  But go ahead and get it anyway.  Sorry about
your wife, but at least you'll have a good contrabassoon.  (Next time don't
ask first; live dangerously.)

Here is some news of a recording for bass saxophone.
The piece is Anubis by Gerard Grisey for unaccompanied bass saxophone and is
played by Claude Delangle on a CD of Music by Gerard Grisey.
The CD is on the Accord label number Accord 201952.
The piece uses some extended techniques (multiphonics, tongue slaps) but
shows off the sound of the instrument well.
It lasts about 7 minutes.
I got my copy from http://www.alapage.com/
I heard about the piece because Delangle mentions it more than once in his
chapter in the New Cambridge Companion to the Saxophone.
I hope that this is of interest.

Unfortunately, a contrabassoon is a little too hard to hide, and I really
don't want to find out just *how far* I could stretch things...  There's
living dangerously, and then there's certain death.

Oh well, a sore temptation anyway.  Maybe I'll go pick up a few lottery
tickets...

I'll add that to the discography - sounds interesting!

I'll also be adding an entry to the bass *sarrusophone* discography: The
San Jose Wind Symphony "From Russia With Love" (1999) [I had no say in the
title selection...].  This is a recording of our 5/16/99 concert, including
Galen Lemmon (percussion soloist), on which I played bass sarrusophone for
Russian Sailor's Dance, March Op. 99 (Prokofieff), and Symphony No. 5
Finale (Shostakovich).  Managed to listen to the first couple tracks on the
way to work this morning, and the sarrusophone is clearly audible on
Russian Sailor - and not so bad that I want to bury the CD ;-)  I'll have
to see if its audible on any of the other tracks (the part was most
prominent for RS, though).

This also is very useful, especially after I discovered the little British
flag in the upper corner that provides one with (at least some of) the page
text in English.  After a quick search, I also found another Daniel Kientzy
CD, and a M. Heupel CD called "Flute News (Kontrabass)"...

Enjoy!
