For anyone who would like to hear the contrabass saxophone there is a new CD
out featuring Daniel Kientzy. The title is "Prelude, Rhapsodies & Coda" and is
on the Nova Musica label NMCD 5104. Kientzy plays all the sax family and is
assisted by the group Telectu (a duo from Portugal). Of the 70 minutes at least
25 feature the contrabass and about 20 the bass. There's also a nice photo of
Daniel playing the cotnrabass. I'm not sure of the distributer but I know
copies can be ordered from Nova Musica, 9 boulevard Mortier, 75020 Paris,
France.

Otherwise there is a piece of mine "Cristal" for solo contrabass saxophone and
four alto saxophones on the MFA (Musique Francaise d'Aujourd'hui) label
216021/22. The title is "Répertoires Polychromes 1" and is a double CD
featuring a panorama of 13 composers and 13 ensembles active in France. Daniel
is the soloist with Le Saxtuor in my piece.

For octobass flute fans Pierre-Yves Artaud recorded Cage's "Ryoanji" for
octobass flute and percussion on the Neuma CD label Neuma 450-77. I'm not sure
whether it is still available.

    Happy listening,

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply.  I, too, "enjoy" my Bundy contra alto
to my Leblanc paperclip low C contrabass because it sounds like a clarinet,
and not a digeridoo (sp) in heat.  I have also played the Leblanc paperclip
contra alto and find it to have that same "metallic" sound (no pun intended)
as my contrabass.  While not an acoustician, I understand it has a lot to do
with the small bore size of the Leblanc.  Matthew Hansen who is also on this
list has an even great knowledge of contras, including the Selmer rosewood
straight contrabass which one rarely sees or hears.

OH MY GOD!! I saw one of those at Soutcoast Music Festival this weekend!  I
was an escort for the bands, and I was lucky enough to escort TheColony Wind
Symphony (high school of course)  They were all high school bands, but I was
drooling over their (thecolony's) contrabassoon and Selmer BBb ROSEWOOD
CONTRABASS CLARINET!!! WOW  I WAS SOOOOO ENVIOUS OF THAT GUY!!!  I was
sitting in the warmup room timing them (at contest), and they were tuning, I
got to hear the CONTRABASSOON AND CLARINET!  Sorry, I got all emotional, but
seismic instruments have that effect on me, especially beauties like those.
WOW IN THE SAME ROOM! WITH ME!!!

Thanks for listening,
Roger
bassclarinet/bassoon(starting tomorrow)  ;)
