Hi,
There's another good book for DIYers: "Musical Instrument Design" by Bart Hopkin. BH is also the editor of the Journal of Experimental Instruments. The book has a number of interesting ideas about instrument construction, key mechanisms, etc. I stumbled across it while browsing through Tower Books.
