Subject: More symptoms

Just a note/warning,

The "You may be a contrabass maniac" page has been updated. Nick made a number of good suggestions, some of which I've used. And, I've added a couple more of my own. I've decided to simply keep a list of contributors at the bottom of the page, so nobody needs to confess to submitting any particular symptom ;-) Or, you can remain anonymous if you'd rather...

I've seen the Getzen in the Brasswind catalog, and have been wondering about it. Since I pretty much ignored brass until relatively recently (aside from my fling with bass trombone in HS/college), I'm still fairly ignorant of which makers are reputable. Are Getzens generally acceptable?

We just rented "Brassed Off" last weekend, and thoroughly enjoyed it. I mainly enjoyed the music: my wife enjoys anything with a British accent ;-)

Thanks Robert. I managed to find the ASA on the web ( http://ojps.aip.org/jasa/ ). Apparently, the journal subscription comes with membership in the ASA. They're sending me an application now (for a non-professional "associate" membership).

Grant, saw the passing reference to you in a recent SJ Mercury News article about your band director: you are the 'attorney on contrabass clarinet', no?

More items for the maniac list:

(Happened to me!)

Yes, that's me. Actually, you can see me in one of the pictures. OK, its just the top of my head. In the picture on the second page, you can see my graying hair just over the string bass player's stand, to the left of our balding bass clarinetist. The bell of the contra is just visible toward the left side of the picture.

I found a box of reeds stuffed down the bell of my contrabass sarrusophone - after it had been overhauled, and I'd been playing it a few weeks!

Thanks, I'll use these!
