Hi, everyone.
My name is Edward Kim. I play sax and clarinet.
While I was looking through Contrabass.com, I saw the "Octocontrabass Clarient." So I asked Orsi, if he can re-make one for promo type and he replied that if I can give him close pictures that they can investigate on then he will be able to! So, now I'm looking for some pictures of  Octocontrabass Clarinet. If anyone has some or know where to find it please let me know.
Thank you

In contras we all love,
Edward J. Kim

Hi Ed,

The best pictures I know of are posted on Terje Lerstad's site, at http://kunst.no/lerstad/octos.html.

Enjoy!

Grant

BTW, while looking this up, I also ran across Terje's basset clarinet page. Not only are there C and Bb basset clarinets, but they're all left-handed!  ;-)

Thank you Grant, for always thinking on our behalf.  I for one truly appreciate the existence of this list, keep up the great work!

On another note, will you be doing any sort of updates to the contrabass.com instrument compedium page?  Maybe some new info, new photos, etc.

Willy

Yes, eventually... Lately (like the last 18 months) my day job has been taking up most of my time. The rest of my time is being consumed by traveling, and contributing some samples to an upcoming sample library... More as that develops ;-)

Since the Leblanc firm was the first to create the octocontras, why the heck can't we get THEM to make some more for those of us who would be willing to fund the research, etc??????  I mean, even though they don't have the specks anymore, I would think they would be able to re-create them based on the instruments that are already in existence.  Is it because Leon Leblanc was the only one interested in these instruments and that now he is no longer around, there is no support from the Pascucci's???

By the way, is there any definitive answer for the current location of the BBBb octo?

I have send a message to Mr EPPELSHEIM about making an octocontralto or contrabass clarinet :
 He replies :
   e) It's possible four you to make an octocontrabass clarinet OR octocontralto clarinet (like those were made by LEBLANC)?Have you some demand about it ?
Demand yes- acoustical possibilities no: I made a lot of experements with plastic tubes in different diameters and with different mouthpieces, the result is always the same: It takes a lot of air pressure and control to make the air vibrate at all, it screeches all the time and you cannot play the second partial, the 12th.
So it would never be a workable musical instrument.
 Greetings,
 Mr EPPELSHEIM

So Mr. Eppelsheim couldn't achieve successful initial experiments for an octo clarinet.  All I have to say is that the Leblanc firm obviously had made successful octos!

What blows my mind is the fact that Leon Leblanc wouldn't have made a recording of these instruments as soon as they were developed.  Or maybe he did and we just don't know about them.?

The fact : if a lot of persons write to LEBLANC for asking to a new octocbcl perhaps they will reach our demands...
