Flutter-tonguing:
David Pino's book on the Clarinet (The Clarinet & Clarinet
Playing, now in Dover reprint) has a section on tonguing, including
double and triple. Pino's doctoral dissertation was on tonguing
for the clarinet, so one might look this up for an in-depth discussion.
Avant-garde flutist Robert Dick recommends using the uvular
throat trill instead of the tongue for flutter-tongue effects, He
also said it was a good imitation purr, effective for comforting
frightened cats.

Here's a great photo (third one down) of tuba-shaped listening
devices, where the bell end gathers the sound.
