Hello, is anyone familiar with clarinets made by Ripamonti?  I am very interested in its G (alto) clarinet and BBb contrabass.

The price of the G seems very reasonable and attractive at $2600 US.  The contrabass on the other hand is a whopping $15,600 US!  More expensive than the Selmer Paris.

I would like to know more about them if anyone care to share some comments.

Sung Hwang Wang,

Where did you see about Ripamonti's BBb contra?  When I go to http://www.laripamonti.com/instruments.html , I don't see anything about that instrument.

Also, does anyone know why Leblanc claims to be the sole manufacturer of the tiny Ab clarinet, when L.A. Ripamonti makes it as well?

What impresses me about L.A. Ripamonti clarinets is the idea of the extended tube with an extra hole before the bell flare to cause the timbre of low E to be the same as the timbre of the rest of the chalumeau.

I found the G clarinet and the BBb contra on L.A. Ripamonti's site after navigating through it for several minutes.  The layout of the website seems very confusing, and the mix of languages doesn't help.

I agree that the G clarinet is a very interesting idea.  However, I would rather have an A bassett clarinet--it can play a whole step lower!

You can find G metal clarinets fairly easily-they are common in Turkish music. I will be listing a couple of basset clarinets on eBay in the next couple of weeks. Cheers!
