I'm not sure if this is any help, but the L.A. Sax company makes straight alto and tenor saxes.  You can see examples at
http://www.lasax.com/Straight_Saxes/straight_saxes.html.

And you can also get them from Keilwerth Instruments:

I recently received an email introducing me to a contrabass sax recording I was not familiar with- I don't recall it being mentioned here before. Mats Gustafsson's cd "Hidros 3" is an improivisatory collaboration with rock band Sonic Youth. I'm not certain if he's using Tubax or full-size contrabas sax, but the little bit I've heard from the disc sounds more like Tubax. It's a little "out there", but it's an interesting exploration of some of the extended sounds the instrument is capable of.

All the best,

Jay

I posted this last nite but have not seen it yet:
KFJC just got an unusual one-sided, clear vinyl record with three tracks of Mats Gustafson doing Contra Bass Sax solo improvisations. He uses the full range of the instrument in a very free-form way. The first two tracks are about 2 minutes each and the last is 11 minutes.

Not for everybody!

( There seems to be no contact information on the record so I don't know how one might find a copy - nothing turns up right away with a web search. I will ask the music director next week for more details.)
There is a picture enclosed with the record of someone holding a contrabass sax, but I don't know if it actually is Mats.

Thanks.  What about Eppelsheim's visit?
