No, it's the king of Thailand - I played a gig with him in
Bangkok about 6 years ago -John Arbo

I am not sure since they are not on the official web-page, and
they are usually not considered to be "wind instruments" but they do
play the same notes as a double bass violin, right?
anyway, there is a film called "Rising Low" that is currently
showing on the Sundance Channel and this is a bass guitar special! here
is the listing:

there will be broadcasts on 11/8 /17 /21 and /22 - if you can
get that channel...

(who is mightily bummed that there will be no TubaFest Xmas in
San Jose this year!)

Sorry, I was wrong!
Bhumibol (like Sihanouk) was a king already, when I a kid far
too many years ago. His family used to have close contact with our
royal family, so that the Thai royal family used to be well covered
here. Only not the saxophone aspect.
A photo documentation for your point can be found on page 3 of
this .pdf file:
I have not been able to find photo documentation for my own
point, so here only one among several text references:
Plus the music for a tango by the just abdicated NORODOM
SIHANOUK:

Other than the shape, how is the contrabassophon different from
a contrabassoon? Do they sound very different from each other?

Not quite sure that this is relevant to music at all, but I was
perusing a 1997 report from the Institute for National Security Studies
on nonlethal weaponry. I was astonished to find a large number of
contrabass weapons:
It's a big Acrobat file, so dialup users may want to exercise
some judgement.
Cheers,
