Subject: [CB] Seeking Heckelphone players and owners
From: Robert Howe
Hello friends
In the last throes of finishing a paper, "The Heckelphone
at 100", I seek to validate the existence of several of these
intriguing instruments. I can not find proof of the heckelphones
said to be owned by the players listed below. If anyone can put
me in touch with any of the musicians listed, I will be most
grateful. I have Googled most of them and sent many, many a
private email without response.
Also listed are institutions (orchestras, opera houses, museums,
universities) that are purported to own HPs. Again, I have
written to almost all of them without receiving responses. If any
of you know that an institution listed owns a heckelphone and can put
me in touch with the person who can validate my data, I will be most
grateful. In most cases that would be the player, instrument
manager or curator.
The only data I really need are the serial number, the model
(which can be surmised from the keywork) and if the instrument is now
used for musical performances. Heckel's records suggest the
construction of 152 heckelphones; I have located 47, confirming their
existence with serial numbers and model numbers. 32 are in use
worldwide, plus of course others which I have not validated.
And if any of you know of a HP that may not be on my list,
please let me know! All contributions to my paper will be
publicly and gratefully acknowledged.
Many thanks
Robert Howe
