I would like to reply to the following
"Here's why I think it might not be
fraud:
1. The seller is in the US.
2. The seller is not requiring payment by bank transfer.
3. The seller is not selling
electronic gear. (For some reasons computer and electronic gear
are really subject to being fraud bait).
4. The seller is not selling a
flood of low dollar generic stuff."
I was bidding on a Selmer Mark VI saxophone listed from a
michigan location, by an established account holder, who seemed to deal
only in musical instruments via paypal. The sax went for $3600. being
outbid I didn't think any further about it until I received a 2nd
chance offer.
Only THEN did I have the opportunity to see that the 2nd chance
was offered from an email account in france. I decided to contact the
first place buyer to ask why he did not buy the instrument.
Turns out that he DID infact buy the horn & someone had
hi-jacked the now exhausted auction & was getting checks sent to
them from multiple lesser auction bidders for this same auction item.
Moral-1 to this story, your reasons for not suspecting are all
shot down under the story I have just told.
Moral-2 In God we trust, ALL OTHERS ARE SUSPECT, until proven
otherwise.
SEEK THE TRUTH, just ask.

Instead of talking the issue to death on this list, I chose to
send the following to the seller.
"Dear dustin8983, I would like to bid on this item, however I
would need to use the ebay escrow option. I would be happy to pay the
extra costs & you would receive a money order from the escrow, once
I have approved the horn. Since you seem to have a quality horn on your
hands I can see no problem with the quality being a problem upon
arrival. let me know ASAP, as the auction has little time left."

Forget it--I sent him an email when the discussion first came up
asking for the serial number of the descant horn (suggesting that he X
the last digit if he desired) and a photo of the horn from the bottom
(bell stem) to make sure that there were no dents. I emphasized
that I was very interested and had a sterling eBay record.
No response as of today.
Draw your own conclusions.

same here - i asked for pictures of the actual instrument - no
response. of course, i used the 'ask seller a question' feature and not
the email address in the listing . . . .

I received an answer from the EEb contra alto seller on ebay. It
is as follows. He says...
"I only accept checks or money orders. My aunt would
rather have the money before she sends out, as you said, a quality
horn. sorry."
Unless one of the current bidders cares to get his ebay contact
information, that's all that can be done with this creep. he's most
certainly crooked, by all measure that I can muster. I've informed ebay
of my concerns, perhaps readers of this list who agree can reiterate
that he needs to be investigated?

Rather than indulging in all this
pontification, why doesn't one of you contact one of the at least two
auction winners he's had, and find out whether they got their
items? If they've been ripped off, he's definitely
dodgy. If they've got the gear, he still might be a thief.
Just indulging in an is-he-isn't-he mutter
won't achieve much.

I emailed him and he said they were real auctions but I notice
most of the auctions have been removed and he is no longer a registered
user.
