Subject: [CB] Nickel toxicity

Just to show how toxic nickel can be:
In 1974 I visited Sudbury, Ontario for a drum and bugle corps contest.
Sudbury is home to *massive* nickel-smelting operations, perhaps the
world's largest, and the largest smokestack I've ever seen belching a
thick plume of smoke which stretched to the horizon.

Almost nothing green grew there in Sudbury. There were no lawns, and
precious few trees, which seemed to struggle to live.

Later a report on acid rain I read said that much of the problems of
acid rain within the North American continent originated from that one
smokestack.

Regards....
Lou
