Subject: [CB] bass and contrabass saxophones

I believe the new L.A. contras are going for 37,500.  I actually got to play
one in March of '98 at northwestern university.  They changed the shape
slightly.  The vintage contras' necks are curved to go around the small end
of the body near the mouthpiece.  The new ones have a straight neck like a
bari or bass.  I think I would prefer a vintage one.  I'm not really
familiar with sound of different kinds of saxes (companies, not sizes), but
the guy told me that they tried to make the sound more modern which I didn't
exactly care for.  I would prefer the old, fuller sound.  But it was still
cool to play one.  Like helen said, the waiting list might be long.

You can get contra clarinet reeds to use for a bass sax.

I just thought I'd throw that info out.
