Have you tried Terje Lerstad's altissimo fingering chart for contra?
See http://kunst.no/lerstad/altissimo.html for the introduction, with
the contra chart itself at http://kunst.no/lerstad/contrabass.html.
The Leblanc (and I think the Vito) and Selmer (and Bundy) contras
have different register mechanisms: the Leblanc mechanism has two
dedicated register vents plus a separate Bb vent (a pad solely for
the throat Bb), while the Selmer mechanism uses only two register
vents, one of which also serves for the throat Bb.  As a result, they
behave somewhat differently in the altissimo register.  Terje Lerstad
points this out, and has separate fingerings for each where they
differ (look for "CA" for fingerings specific to the Selmer-style
contra).  An *excellent* online resource :-)

Hi, after Grant's beautifully formulated description of the all too
sensitive and (at times...) frustrating register mechanism "system" that
terrorize many of us, I just wanted to add that for my clarinets, and
*especially* for the bigger ones, I find it helpful to have thin cork pads
for the keys operating the register mechanism...it's sort of hard to
balance it, but the more those keys open (when 'supposed' to open...) the
better the horn speaks, the throat Bb is less wheezy and the higher
register more open.
I'd definitely also check out the mouthpiece/reed combination, there've
been a number of great suggestions on this list in the past.
...So, from me too:

Best of luck!

Hello, would he maybe sell one of his 7 (man, I'm impressed!) bass
saxophones at a human price???
If so, how can one get in touch with him?

Thank you!!

He lives in Darien, IL.  Give information a call.  I wouldn't be surprised if
he wants to sell one!
