That's actually the University of Southern North Dakota at Hoople. Turns out that Peter Schikele is originally from Fargo.

Now this is an interesting lead.  Type in "house on the rock, Wisconsin" at Google.com, and you'll get thousands of URLs (like 194,000).  A few of the more relevant sites:

Enjoy!

I knew it was something like that - a few years ago the Stanford Band played at
a football bowl game - the other team was from East South Carolina University
(or something to that effect...)

for a great like to all sorts of odd-ball museums around the USA (and some very cutting reviews of "House on the Rock") go to http://www.roadsideamerica.com/welcome.html   - I went to HOTR about 10 years ago - there are a variety of mechanical orchestras (and bands -some real, some fake)  massive pipe organs (some real, some fake) and all sorts of other musical crap (some real, some fake) - it is not really a museum but it is well worth a visit if you are into kitsch of all sorts... more at  http://www.roadsideamerica.com/attract/WISPRhouse.html  - be ready to wander through miles of "stuff"

Subject: [CB] Basse de musette!

Here's something you don't see every day: a ca. 1750 bass oboe, at http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1439612706. It does seem odd, however, that the total length is 82 cm (without the coiled bocal): I'd expect it to be closer to 115 cm...  Perhaps its a basse de musette in Eb or F?  Another in the series from Music Treasures.

While I'm at it, there's a Bundy Eb contra at  http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1438771320

Enjoy!

Bassoonist and experimental improv musician Lindsay Cooper has reportedly passed on (I don't have much details) but you can find a good bio or her at http://www.sigov.si/uzp/city/site/music/cvcooper.html

How unfortunate!  Museums are where collections usually go to die.
Items get to sit in glass cases, instead of being used and enjoyed by a new generation.
Just My Opinion,

Steven,
That was a concern about the music.  However, many of the offers for the
music came from parts of the USA that were extremely far from me and I
wouldn't be travelling in their direction anytime soon.  The cost of
shipping more than half a dozen boxes of music was extremely prohibitive
both for me and the recipient.   On a positive note my husband's grandfather
will be recognized for his contributions to the city band "legacy".

Not true for the Fiske museum in Claremont, CA - they loan out instruments (to
qualified players) and are very active in promoting music events.  That is where
I plan to send some of my more unusual antique horns when I kick the bucket...

I can see your point of veiw, and you are very right. But on the other hand, perhaps the museums want to keep the instruments in the best quality possible. So the don't let people use them, so future generations can see them. the only thing is, they can't experience them.
Just my two cents. Owen
