I ordered mine through the Harp Depot.  $400 is a decent price for the Hohner model, but other makes are
available closer to $200.  See the BassHarp101 page for a guide to all the models.

There's a bass harp on eBay at the moment (http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1429092652).
It looks like the Hohner model, only plastic where the Hohner is wood.  Opening bid is $129, with no reserve...

Hi Grant And all,

It simply amazes me when people sell an unusually sized instrument (Piccolo,
Contrabass, etc) ANYTHING, that they do not put something in the picture as
a reference point of comparison.
A person, a toy, a can of pop/beer, ANYTHING, to show size.

To anyone who's NEVER seen a Bass Harmonica, wouldn't you like to see it
next to something familiar?

Now, I'm not selling any of my Trombones, but you can get some idea of size
differences on my webpage (Piccolo to Contra, Sopranino to Contra, etc). Go

I've heard great things about Harp Depot. Just couldn't remember the name.
I bought a Chinese-made Victory bass harp on eBay and it had problems right
out of the box, such as 3 or 4 buzzy reeds that need adjustment. Plus the
black plastic coating chips off very easily. Save your money and buy a
Hohner. They come in 2 different models. One has an extended high range. They
should have extended the low end, but I guess they figured it would be a more
likely candidate to play the melody if the high end were extended.

Subject: [CB] duets

Hello from stormy Minnesota.  If it isn't snow it's tornado time.  But I
digress.
My contra-bassoon playing pal and I are wanting to put together a
contra-contra duet.  I will be on Eb contra alto clarinet.  Any suggestions?
Since this is an easy transposition I figured we could do some bassoon
duets.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  We have a Mozart clarinet duet
that looks like it could sound very cool indeed with the low voices instead.

I play a bit of bass harmonica, and I can confirm-  yes, that's what you're
hearing on "The Boxer".  In addition to the other songs mentioned by
Heliconman, the instrument can be heard on the "Pet Sounds" and "Friends"
albums by the Beach Boys.  (These two albums are both near to my heart
because of all sorts of neat instrumentation, including theremins,
harpsichords, timpani, bass clarinet, bass flute, and some truly excellent
harmony singing.  And not a surf song to be found...)

PS- a distinction should probably be made that these songs feature a
contrabass (Hohner-style double reeds tuned in octaves; range down to
contra-low-E- same bottom note as string bass) harmonica, as opposed to a
"bass" harmonica (single reeds, down to low C- same as Low written A on
baritone sax.)
