For those of us who are curious.
Where the heck is Hammond Castle?

Thanks,

Tom

I've been there before!   It's up on the north shore of Massachusetts,
overlooking Gloucester Bay.  The guy who built it back in the 1920s or so also
designed in a pipe organ.   They have candlelight tours of the castle, and
recitals of all different types in the grand hall.  If you spend half a day
there, the town next door (Rockport) has an artist colony.  Lots of nice
galleries.  Cheap lobster too, at the right places!  It's a great day-trip if
you're ever in the Boston area with some extra time.

Hey...
For TriM initiation, im required to do a performance, but i really want to
make it something kind of rare and unique, and since i have my contrabass and
my bud plays an awsome flute, i thought what better than look for a
contrabass and flute duet?  Does anyone know of some pretty difficult, but
like elliot del borgo feel kind of duet??
Thanks...

There are several Tuba & Piccolo Duets that could be done for your
combination. "Jabberwocky" is one, "The Elephant & the Fly", etc.

Check out the website at:
http://www.hammondcastle.org/

The organ specs are at:
http://www.hammondcastle.org/organ.htm

It features 2 ranks of 32 pipes in the 32' range using up to 20" of wind pressure!
I suspect they don't crank it up the way old Mr. Hammond used to though.

Lots of things to see at this museum/architectural wonder and it's in a
beautiful spot too. Bring binoculars for looking out to sea. For
leaf-peepers, the trees have begun to change color here already and peak
color should arrive in one to three weeks or so, particularly being right on
the edge of Gloucester Harbor. You can a boat from Boston to Gloucester and
get the CATA (Cape Ann Transit Authority) bus to downtown Gloucester. From
there, either a taxi or walk south along the coast about 20 to 30 minutes.
Contact the museum for more details on hours, admission, location, etc. If
you stay overnight, I personally recommend the Harborview Inn, across the
street from the beach where the famous Gloucester Fisherman statue stands
with its inscription "down to the sea in ships". Spent my wedding night here.
The inn has been redecorated and featured in Better Homes magazine and last I
knew was a pretty reasonable rate. Reservations are recommended.
Drop me an email if you're coming, and I may be free to play tour guide.
Always looking for a reason to head up to "the other cape".
Cheers!
