Hey, It's Andrew, the 13 yr old with the bari. Anyway, I found a site
that most of you guys/girls have probably gone to. It has a few songs on it
to download and listen to. Go to www.nuclearwhales.com and click
"Recordings" you'll find some pretty interesting stuff there. Enjoy!

Subject: [CB] Zollsound 2!

CD Review:

"Das Gleichgewicht" by Zollsound 2 (1999 wassermann Jazz Lisa 2001) arrived today from Germany.  Examination of the case reveals that the group is called "Zollsound 2, featuring Bill Elgart", and consists of Bill Elgart on drums, percussion and gong, and Thomas Zoller on bari sax, tubax, bass clarinet, flutes, and "footpedal synth."  "Das Gleichgewicht" is German for "the Equilibrium", and the CD is subtitled "music from the play of the same name by Botho Strauß". All tracks were written by TZ, with the exception of #8 (a perc solo) and #14 (by both).  The tracks are:

The back of the CD case mentions "A world premiere, the tubax in Eb, for the first time in this solar system in stereo. The tubax is an advancement of the saxophone in contrabass register, designed and built by Benedikt Eppelsheim, an extraordinarily creative young instrument maker from Munich." (If you'll forgive my translation)

The music is jazz-oriented, with some (apparent) free improvisation.  Although the disc is mainly bari sax (not that I have a problem with that), it is always easy to pick out the tubax ;-)  I like it on the first hearing:  I'll have to take this one home and blast it through the home stereo...

Enjoy!
