Yes, there are ways to minimize and prevent spam, and I use
everything I can.  Unfortunately, the idiots who send out spam
continually work on exploiting the deficiencies in the internet email
protocols.  When I am out of town for a week(*), and don't have
computer access, they sometimes get through.

Just to remove any doubt, I *do* follow up on every spam that is sent
to the list, whether it actually gets to the list or not (and the
vast majority are excluded without being distributed to the
subscribers), and make sure that action is taken against the spammer.
This usually results in the spammer's account being terminated.
Unfortunately, it is all too easy to set up fraudulent accounts, and
many ISPs accept new accounts without doing much to insure that their
"new customer" isn't a fraud.  What is really sad is that spammers
pay hundreds of dollars for their software and email addresses, and
send out hundreds of millions of spam messages, all to reach the
three poor fools in the world who might be stupid enough to send
money to a person who can't provide a valid return address.

(*) I've just returned from a week in Victoria, B.C., attending a
seminar in intellectual property.  Unfortunately, no contrabass
instruments were observed ;-(

Dear Grant

Thank you very much. I had no way to know that your generally strict
surveillance of downright list abuse was not possible due to the use of the
freedom of travel that you as any other person should be entitled to.

Still loving this list very much!

Klaus

Subject: [CB] roto-toms

A question for any of our percussion players:  can roto-toms be surrepetitiously retuned during performance the way timpani can?
