alto Saxophone that I am selling. In excellent, playable condition with
case and matching white-plastic mouthpiece. I would rather sell to a
colleague on the list than go to the world of greed that is EBay.

Subject: [CB] contrabass balalaika
Date: Tue, 02 May 2000 13:32:01 -0700I saw a REALLY big balalaika (about 4 feet across the bottom) in the Lark In the Morning shop in San Francisco about a month ago- I think it was about $750. I assume it's a contrabass- I gave it a pluck, and it sounded great! They have it in their catalog, too, I think. There's a weird and fun Russian/roots-rock band called the Red Elvises based in Santa Monica- they use an electric contrabass balalaika- bright red, no less! They've got a few CDs, too. Good luck!

Just ran across another CD by Anthony Braxton, "14 Compositions
(Traditional) 1996" (1996 Leo Records CD LR 259). The entire disc is
duets with Stewart Gillmor (piano, valve trombone, flugelhorn,
cornet, sousaphone, and double-belled euphonium). AB plays soprano,
alto, tenor & bass saxes, clarinet and contrabass clarinet, and
flute. The tracks are:Interesting stuff...
- Roseta
- Kansas City Man Blues
- Do You Know What it means to Miss New Orleans?
- Blue, Turning Grey Over You
- Skylark
- Battle Cry (the Wesleyan U fight song, bass sax + sousaphone)
- Ain't Gonna Give Nobody None of this Jelly Roll
- In a Sentimental Mood
- I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter
- Star Dust
- The Memphis Blues
- Some Day You'll Be Sorry
- Blues My Naughty Sweetie Gives to Me
- Ja Da (bass sax + sousaphone)
