A double-reed collector, I am offered a Sonora contrabassoon, short
model, 10 or so years old, A440, in excellent condition with 6 bocals
including two by Fox.  I am not a contrabassoonist and cannot assess
this instrument except as a piece of art, which it is not.  Can anyone
comment on this make, its quality, other known contras by this maker,
and a reasonable price?

Many thanks,

RObert Howe

I used to think the question of the day was:

HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN YOU FIT INTO A VW?

Now think the question is more like:

HOW MANY BASS INSTRUMENTS CAN YOU FIT INTO A VW?

Once upon a time I played the EEb Contra Alto Clarinet (straight) in Jr.
and Sr. high.  I used to carry the thing on my bicycle!  I put one end of
the case under the seat against the frame and extended the other end out
over the handlebars.  I held the case handle with one hand and "steered"
the bike with the other.  What a sight!
