What if you used a pickup mike on the 32'? Or a
magnetic pickup to catch the sound and plug it up to
an amp, make it loudeer.

I have a quesation: Does anybody know if a pipe on an
organ could be coiled around, so as to make it smaller
and less cumbersome? If so, why don't more churches
have coiled or doubled-back organ pipes? That'd be
interesting.

The pipe organ at Hammond Castle in Gloucester, MA is an example of this Mr.
Hammond was HATED by his neighbors because his organ was so loud that it
could be heard MILES out to sea! Mr. Hammond was not an organist, but an
inventor who built among other things an organ player mechanism that had a
delay timer so that the castle could be evacuated. The sound was actually
deafening! Very interesting tour of the castle! Great place to visit on a
summer vacation! Spend half the day in the museum and the other half at
Singing Beach in nearby Magnolia where the sand squeaks under your feet.
True! Never found out why though.

I've seen doubled-back pipes a couple of times recently at Memorial Hall in
Melrose, MA and on a band organ (repleat with player rolls, snare and bass
drums and xylophone - all mechanically played from the player roll) mounted
in a trailer at a couple of parades this summer. The larger pipes were
actually "L" shaped. I think it was owned by Worcester (MA) Sound & Light.

Doubled back pipes are probably pretty common.

Well, many organs, including the one I play have "mitered" pipes - wrapped
around like a brass instrument.  Because of the width of a true 32 Bombarde,
there's still not room in my case...plus a 12 note extension would cost in excess of $30,000!

That's a very interesting idea about the mikes...hadn't even thought of
that...hmmmm, now I'll have to put my thinking cap on.

The Hammond Castle sounds great...my sister lives in central Mass...and I've
been to Gloucester before, but never made it to the Castle.  I will next time.

Hi there,
I would be interested in purchasing a reasonably priced bass flute to add
to my arsenal of woodwinds;
I love the sound of the instrument, just cannot afford a new one.
Any brand or model is of interest. Thanks    Alberto

Just received Arthur Grossman's bassoon CD!  IT'S WONDERFUL!!  I was
amazed at how quickly it arrived. Finding anything bassoon on the space
coast is next to impossible.  Most music store look at you as if you have
two heads.  Donna K
