University of Houston Wind Ensemble, "The Planets, Appalachian
Spring" (1998, Mark Custom Recording Service, 2807-MCD) is also a
good disc. This disc features a wind ensemble transcription of the
full Planets symphony by Holst, arranged/transcribed by Merlin
Patterson, complete with women's choir for Neptune. The ensemble
personnel are listed on the liner notes, and include two alto flutes,
contrabassoon, and two contra clarinets. You can find this one at
Walking Frog Records (http://www.walkingfrog.com) or directly from
the Mark Custom Recording Service, markcustom@aol.com. I'll have to
take this one out to the car and crank up the volume for an accurate
read, but it sounds pretty good over my little office speakers :-)Enjoy!
