Never tried to make a bass flute, but here's a place to get some ideas for
all sorts of bass instruments:

Hosaphone(tm)  Headquarters

The FAQ for this site appeared within the last day or so on the
alt.music.trumpet newsgroup.  The site is a hoot, in more ways than one, and
the basic idea could be modified to make a "Hosaphone(tm)" of any length.
