lokibassoon@yahoo.comTo whom it may concern:
I decided to inform everybody of some instances in popular culture music where contrabass instruments can be heard.
If anybody would like to tell me of any other occasions in 'modern' music where a low or contrabass might be heard, please email me at lokibassoon@yahoo.com.
- On the soundtrack to The Matrix, a contrabass sarrusophone can plainly be heard, but I forget which part it's at.
- On the "Sudafed" commercial for the radio, a contrabass clarinet can be heard qoute clearly.
- On the song Steven's Last Night in Town, by the popular rock group Ben Folds Five, a contrabass clarinet plays a LONG solo at the end of the song which is VERY loud and easy to hear.
- The Indiana band Faun Tummus, a punk rock group, uses a modified bass clarinet.
- A contrabassoon can be heard on the soundtrack to the movie "Hope Floats" and also "IN AND OUT".
- A bassoon (not a contrabassoon) can be heard on Michael Rabinowitz's CD "Bassoon on Fire" which is a collection of jazz bassoon songs played my a bassoonist Michael Rabinowitz.
- Another bassoon song would be Illinois Jacquet's version of Round Midnight, played to great effect on a bassoon.

I believe that the part is played by a French horn. Tell me though if otherwise!

Subject: A contrabass Balalaika FS
Reply-To: contrabass@contrabass.comAdam Kent
Dear Contrabass:
Is anybody interested in a balalaika? I built it myself. It is made of
plywood and pine board, which are admittedly crappy materials. But it
is something you will be unlikely to find anywhere else, plus it is
durable and strong, and lighter than a double bass.IT IS A PROTOTYPE!
IT IS NOT PERFECT! IF IT WAS I'D BE SELLING IT FOR MANY DOLLARS. It is
a little bit over six feet tall and has three low bass strings. Ideal
for bowing or playing with fingers! Name price!!Starting price at $500!
Please reply!Post reply at contrabass@contrabass.com!

I believe that the part is played by a French horn. Tell me though if
otherwise!
>>Uhh... QUITE sure.. Maybe you should listen again, and more carefully this time. starts in a rather syncopated bass line "bop", then in sustained notes that crescendo rather loudly

Reply-To: contrabass@contrabass.comOh, by the wayÉ
The balalaika is a three-stringed instrument played in the Balkans. It
comes in many sizes; the one I'm selling is contrabass. It is useless
other than a collector's item or decorative piece.-Adam

Reply-To: contrabass@contrabass.comDear Matt:
While you're at it, on the subject of music that is, although this has
nothing to do with contrabass, have you heard the song'slide' by the
GooGoo dollls?
You'll notice that in the last verse where he says "I wanna wake up
where you are" and there's a little rest, you can hear him say
something! It sounds like he's saying "BOWELS".
And do you want a contrabass balalaika?-Adam

Reply-To: contrabass@contrabass.comDear Contrabass:
I'm sure that most of you have heard the song "Slide" by the Goo Goo
dolls. Now, if you have, you'll know that in the last verse, when he
says "I wanna wake up where you are" and then thare's a rest, he says
something during that rest! I don't know what he's saying! I think he's
saying "Bowels" or "Vowels."
If there is ANYBODY who knows what I'm talking about
PLEEEEEEEEAAAASSSSSEE! respond and tell me about it. You can send to my
address lokibassoon@yahoo.com or you can put it up on the List!!-thanks,
ADAM
