Yeah;
 I also found it odd how I could play that same piece (Von Weber;
Concertino)on the Leblanc model 340 I play just as well as I can on alto
clarinet; Eb clarinet; or Bass clarinet...  My performance on it can only be
surpassed (by me that is) by my Bb (soprano) playing... which I have played
non-stop for years; and then it's not agility that's the defining factor;
it's tonal control and expression; which I am so much more used to my trusty
old Bb.  For any clarinet; you will not find a more agile instrument in the
same pitch range; and it often becomes difficult (especially in the lower
clarinets) to find an instrument even as agile! (though some do exist)
Thanks for Listnin' to My Ramblings,

Oh yeah?  Hm...I have no trouble playing Weber's Concertino (Op26) on the
thing...if that doesn't require agility, I don't know what does...

Speaking of playing the Weber concertino on the contra-clarinets, does
anyone here play the Mozart or any of the Vivaldi bassoon concertos on the
contrabassoon?

Hi everyone:

 I always was afraid of this day, I would take the time to make an
effort to stop this.....

The House has a bill set up for a vote ASAP on whether to charge long
distance charges for Internet access even if you dial-up locally. This
is something that affects each of us. Please read and forward:
Congress will be voting in less than two weeks. CNN stated that the
Government would, in two weeks time, decide to allow or not allow a
charge to your phone bill equal to a Long Distance call EACH time you
access the Internet.
The address is http://www.house.gov/writerep/
If you choose, visit the address above and fill out the necessary form!
If EACH one of us, forwards this message on to others in a hurry, we may
be
able to prevent this injustice from happening!
  PLEASE PASS THIS ON!!!

Well, this urban legend keeps coming up every so often, starting over
10 years ago in some variations.  It is best to not forward this type
of stuff, unless you have direct knowledge.

Well, I don't know whether or not Vinny is spreading Urban legends or not, but I'd certainly
like to take this opportunity to bolster at least some of his credibility by heartily
recommending a CD of his that I obtained recently;  "Steve Abrams & Vinny Golia; Circular Logic
/ Music For Woodwinds".  NWCD0203.  Wow! What a fantastic CD!  The playing is intuitive and
thoughtful, and not at all cliche. The range of woodwinds is covered here by the two
participants, and the compositions are wonderful.  I urge each and every one of you to support
a fellow list member and order this CD from Vinny.
Regards,
Vinny.
(Just kidding......)
Wholeheartedly Endorsing This CD,

I find that I can fly faster up and down my bass clarinet than I ever
could on my clarinet, possibly because I don't have to work as much
on holding it up, and/or the spacing between the keys.  Of course,
tonguing is a different matter to me.  I've also marveled at how agile
the contrabassoons are on the tape from last year's contrafest.

NPR news was my source. I think that's reputable enough. We can't just think
it will never happen.

It's true; not urban legend in the least; it's been in all the papers and on
the news
