It sounds like you really want 90 degree elbow joints, if you're going to
make a square.  PVC U joints aren't that common, as the PVC is usually used
for lawn sprinkler systems, and one rarely needs a tight 180 degree turn
for such applications.  However, 90 degree (and 45 degree) elbows aren't
hard to find: Orchard Supply Hardware had them in all sizes, and they
aren't very expensive.  Less than a dollar apiece, depending on size...
You'll want to make sure and make each joint airtight: I think you can get
PVC adhesive for $3-5.

Let us know how it works!

Subject: SJ Sax Xmas

The San Jose Saxophone Christmas happened last Saturday: 146 sax players
(including two Eb contrabass sarrusophones, 3 bass saxophones, and quite a
few bari saxes) played for about an hour in each of two performances.  The
first gig was part of "Christmas in the Park", in downtown San Jose, while
the second was indoors at Eastridge Mall (also San Jose).  All in all, it
was a blast, and I plan to go again next year.  I'm already arranging a
piece with a contra/sarrusophone feature ("I Want A Hippopotamus for
Christmas").  Beware!

;-)

Subject: another sci fi contra

While the technology is still decades away, just thing of the
applications of the fourth dimension to the contra player!  No more
hassles with enormouse cases (particularly in German sub compact cars);
put them in the fourth dimension!  Have trouble playing that horn in the
crowded orchestra pit?  Put it in the Fourth Dimension!  Don't want a
paperclip clarinet, but want it long enough to go lower than low?  Put it
in the Fourth Dimension!  Want to build a horn a few octaves lower, but
still able to use in marching band?  Put it in the Fourth Dimension!
Although that doesn't help with the weight problems...
Just a passing thought.  Hopefully it will pass quickly...

A great page with lots of information on the Taragato.

Does anyone know of a bass taragato?
