Subject: Michel Jolivet: Sarrusophones etc.

I am ecstatic to report that my Triebert Bb bass sarrusophone is back from being totally restored. It is truly magnificent and plays beautifully. It has a gold bell interior, gold engraving, gold bocal ( ie. plated ), satin silver body and bright silver plated key work, guards and ferrules. Obviously all new corks and pads. It plays in tune and is my pride and joy!! I'll have to figure out a way to get photos of it on the net.

I am practicing and plan on doing a recital in the near future - sort of a lecture demonstration. If possible I would like to do something similar for the IDRS convention.

If anyone has access to sarrusophone music please let me know - I am aware of a solo for bass sarrusophone and brass band by Blauckemann, but can only imagine it could be located at the National Bibliotheque in Paris and I'm not sure how to contact them. Also, Francis Casadesus wrote a Prelude and fugue for contrabass sarrusophone and piano. Does anyone have these works???? If anyone has the method by Mimart and would like to sell it please contact me. Naturally I am also on the lookout for the method written by Coyon.

If there are any sarrusophonists living in the Pacific NW, let me know so we can play duets!! I recall that a subscriber to this list actually owns a complete set of sarrusophones - I would love to hear what makes they are and what kinds of reeds are used - have you thought of doing the Gounod sextette? Does anyone have the music to the sextette? I understand that the performance at the 1992 IDRS convention was a reconstruction from a piano score; does anyone have that?

My wife, who is primarily a flutist, has developed a bizarre fascination with the contrabass flute. Where does one purchase such an instrument and what do they cost. If Marian Garver reads this, please e-mail me so that my wife can talk to you!!

I ordered a bass sordune reed from the Early Music Shop and anxiously await it to see if it plays better on my sarrusophone reed than a contrabassoon reed. Anyone tried both?

That's it for now!!! Michel Jolivet

In response to this old message that I'm reading; I'm also incredibly interested and anxious to see this instrument! If Mr. Jolivet has not yet figured out how to post photos of this instrument on the web, I am offering to do this for him. We have a great scanner at work, and I will donate some of my website to show off his instrument! All that I require is that photos be mailed to me. I can be contacted at my e-mail address if this offer is of any interest!

Steven Lederman
