Subject: Boston?

Hi,

I'll be heading over to Boston for the rest of this week. Apart from the historical and patriotic, is there anything in particular I shouldn't miss? Perhaps I should go photograph Von Huene's subcontrabass recorder?

Subject: Quiet list?

Hi,

The list seems a bit quiet this week: my email has been a bit out-of-sorts, and I'm still trying to figure out why. I appear to have been unsubscribed from a few digests (but not others). If anyone is sending posts for the list, and hasn't seen them appear, please try resending them to me at green@fr.com. The way our digest is set up right now, your post should show up the same day you send it (either as an "immediate" post, or in the daily digest).

Note, the daily digest doesn't go out if there aren't any posts (thankfully!). So, you haven't missed anything for the last week+ - we just haven't had any message traffic.

Subject: Concerts!

Hi,

Just a quick concert announcement: the San Jose Wind Symphony will be performing in a benefit concert for the Lynbrook String Orchestra (John Felder, conducting) on Tuesday, November 4 at 7:30 PM. The concert will be at the Lynbrook High School auditorium (not a bad venue, really). The LSO is going on a New York City tour in 1998, and the proceeds of the concert apparently go to defray expenses (as opposed to fraying them?). Tickets are $10 for adults, $7 for children, seniors, and friends of SJWS members (let me know if you'd like a discount ticket, and I'll get them for you).

I'm not sure which pieces we'll be playing, but we're currently rehearsing "Procession of the Nobles", "Festive Overture" (Alfred Reed), "Star Wars" (as arranged by J. de Meij), "Elegy for a Young American", and a few others that slip my mind at the moment. Some of these actually have bona fide contrabass parts (I'm playing off contralto or bass clarinet, or bass sax parts for the rest). Maybe I'll dust off my bass sarrusophone for the bass sax parts....

Enjoy!

Grant
