Regarding the various reports of squeaks on experimental
subcontrabass clarinets, I'll just say that I was plagued by squawks at
the lower end of the model 340 clarion register - until I got a Legere
reed. By luck I selected the right strength first time, so £13.50
has put me out of my misery. No more buying boxes of cane reeds and
finding only one or two reeds that are any good (but still
squeak-prone). I wonder if that might be the answer for the octo.

ditto on the Legere reeds! when i started playing again about a
year-and-a-half ago, i was having a rough time with inconsistent reeds,
even amongst the vaunted Van Dorens, until i tried a Legere.
and, if anyone has considered synthetic reeds, Legere has a
wonderful return policy - either refund or replace (with a different
strength, if needed).

Grant,
I sent an email to the new list address asking for the digest
version of CB. I don't know if it went through. When you have a chance,
could you check or just change my status to digest? Thanks a bunch.
How's that Heckelphone? Isn't it a cool instrument? I'm going to
Hong Kong twice more this year to play it with the Hong Kong
Philharmonic Orchestra. I love it.
