OPUS 102:
CLARINET QUARTET NO. 19(1977)

I    Allegro moderato
II Chorale variations
III Valse burlesque
A quartet for the four deepest members of the clarinet family. The first movement is mainly melodious with variying harmonic thickness. The second movements chorale variations utilises the sonorous possibilities of the ensemble, while the waltz in the last movement focuses the more humorous sides of this ensemble.

OPUS 116:
CLARINET QUARTET NO. 20(1977)

I Allegro vivace
II Andante recitando
III Menuetto
IV Allegro furioso
Written for 4 bass clarinets, and using extensively the 4 1/2 octave range. In the first movement melodies are presented together with a rhytmic, tango-like ostinato. The second movement is recitative-like, with no clear feeling of meter. The third movement is an "ordinary" menuetto, and the last agitated, quick with alternating unisono and harmonized sections.
