As Lelia Loban astutely observed:

something you've tried to

don't think it's possible

I did a lot of laughing on that one! :-D Thanks for that
one, Lelia! This may explain why I also cannot flutter-tongue...
:-(
I took classes in SIX foreign languages, and NONE of them helped
me to even roll my "r's"! Arrrrgh! I guess I'm reduced to
only spelling a roll...
I can not only make a tube with my tongue, but I can whistle
with that same tongue tube -- no one can accuse me of ever not being
"tongue-tubed"! Is that a pun? I've been up too long today
to give a good answer to that one...
I have a problem, Lelia -- my tongue is so cotton-pickin' wide
that I can't spread it out inside my mouth enough to make it
thin! What next? I've never heard of "tongue-reduction
surgery"! Don't think I want to try it, either...
Let's see, Spanish, Russian, German -- I can try to work out
those German ones again... no, sounds like garbage (I spit too much,
too)... Hebrew, Greek, Latin -- not much help in rolling...
Hey, Klaus -- how is Danish for rolling "r's"? :-D

Subject: [CB] Frakfurt MESSE: Report on contra clarinets
I was at the Frakfurt Musik-MESSE (I live in Italy), where I had
the opportunity to try many contra-clarinets. Take in mind that usually
I play Leblanc 340 and 350.
Here some opinions:
- Leblanc 342 black:
- Fantastic. Much better than my 340. Probably because it was
very well regulated.
- Leblanc contrabass of plastic (probably the old vito)
- not bad, but the metal one is really better.
- Selmer contrabass (rosewood)
- Very nice to see but very difficult to play. (Probably badly
regulated). The sound was good only for certain notes. I did not liked
it.
- Selmer contra-alto (rosewood)
- Incredible. Extremely easy to play. Fantastic sound. I will
probably buy one. Much easier to play than my Leblanc 350.
- Ripamonti contra-alto (palissandro wood, to low D)
- Not bad but it has problem of pitch. Not comparable with the
selmer.
- Ripamonti contrabass (palissandro, to low C)
- Beautiful to see. About playing it is similar to the Selmer
contrabass. A little easier to play but with problems of pitch. I did
not liked it at all.
Then I tried many bass and alto clarinet. If you wants more
details please write to me.
