Subject: [CB] Making a Rubber Foot for my Peg

After about two years, I wore a hole in the bottom of the original rubber foot that came on the peg of my Leblanc BBb Contrabass.  I couldn't find anything that might work on the peg until I noticed a solid rubber stopper that is slightly larger than the original rubber foot, and has a slightly different shape.  The height of the stopper is 1 inch.  The small end is 9/16 inch and the large end is 3/4 inch.  This one came from Lowes, but is probably available at other hardware stores.

The peg is 7.0 mm in diameter, or 9/32 inch.  I used a 1/4 inch drill bit I had on hand, and the rubber stopper was flexible enough to stretch to fit the peg.  I applied a small amount of Goodyear Pliobond into the hole, inserted the peg and wiped away the excess Pliobond.  The Pliobond acts as a lubricant when inserting the peg.  When it dries, it keeps the rubber foot from coming off by accident.

Holding the stopper with a pair of pliers, I drilled through the smaller end, but apparently drilled too far.  After a few months, I wore a hole in that one too.  As best as I can tell now, there was less than 1/8 inch of rubber between the peg and the end of the stopper.  I have just installed my second rubber foot, only this time I was very careful to leave about 3/8 inch of rubber between the peg and the bottom of the stopper.

If this one wears out quickly, does anyone know a better way to make a rubber foot for the Contra peg?  Is the correct part a common item in a musical instrument repair shop?

Subject: [CB] New York Philharmonic Tickets for Saturday, April 9
From: Robert Howe

Hi all

A minor crisis leaves me with two tickets I cannot use, for the New York Philharmonic.  The concert will be at 8 pm Saturday April 9 at Avery Fixcher Hall in Lincoln Center.  It has two works: Beethoven's magnificent Fourth Piano Concerto with Mitsuko Uchida, and the Seventh (Leningrad) Symphony of Shostakovitch.  Semyon Bychkov conducts.  The tickets are in the lower tier, excellent seats, they cost me $152 total with the internet fee, etc.  First person who says "yes" can have them at my cost.

Because this represents a program change (the "minor crisis" I alluded to) the Philharmonic has graciously offered to swap these seats for another concert; so please respond by late Thursday night or I may take them up on this offer.

Ciao

Subject: [CB] Linton Contra Alto Clarinets

The current Linton contras are Bundy stencils.  They have the identical wide metal ring at the top of the body.  They're decent, about the same level as the Vito.
