Subject: [CB] Holes
The Chinese end blown flute has 4 'extra' holes near the end.
The Acoustic purpose is to make an impedence match with the free
air.
That is what a bell does. It takes a small tube and
efficently attaches it to the room. Take the bell off of a tuba
and click into the moutpiece. You can hear a series of clicks
because the click cannot get out of the tube efficently. With the
bell, only one click.
An exponential horn has no natural resonance. It does not
reflect sound waves like a tube ending abruptly.

Subject: [CB] Leblanc contra finishes--black vs. not
- Does anyone know if the Leblanc contrabass clarinets are still
available in the regular shiny silver finish, or are they only
available with the black finish now?
- Does anyone know why they switched to the black finish?
- Does anyone know why the neck and bell aren't black while the
rest of the instrument is?
- On the Leblanc site (www.gleblanc.com), both models of contra-altos
are pictured to still have the original silver-colored bodies, while
the BBb contrabasses show the black finish. Are they only putting
the black finish on the BBb's???

Hello,
Are there any contrabass clarinet players in the Vancouver area,
BC, Canada? I would like to network, and maybe get together to
play, etc.
Please contact me: bassethornmusic@hotmail.com
