Hey Grant, sounds like fun.  What makes are these two Sarrusphones?  It is interesting that you bring them to the Saxophone Christmas, given that Gautrot's invention of the sarrusophone was a blatant rip-off of Sax.

I seek a Couesnon Eb contrabass sarrusophone to copy the bocal, mine is from 1923.  I also have a Conn Eb contra, Gautrot Bb and C bass, and an Orsi soprano.

Ciao

I wish I could be there- I had great fun the last two years, and I really hope to be back next year. I have a gig conflict here in Seattle though, and to add insult to injury, I'm not even playing a big instrument on the show! (It's almost all clarinet, with a few tunes on bass clarinet to make me feel a little better... I even get one low C.)

Anyway, I am glad Blaise has things well in hand on the contrabass end!

I can see it now: A tubax, a contrabass sax, and two sarrusophones walk into a bar...

Have a great time, and I will be thinking fondly on Saturday of the sounds of massed and massive saxophones...

All the best,

Jay

Robert,

Who did you find to copy a sarrusophone bocal?  I have an Eb Conn contrabass with an "somewhat artisitc" bocal and would like a copy made which is straighter.

Appreciate your help.

Inspired by the saxophone, certainly. Designed to compete with the saxophone, definitely. Rip-off? Not to denigrate the saxophone, but Sax didn't invent Boehm fingering, nor conical bores. In patent law, we call that "designing around" the invention.

Anyway, the San Jose Saxophone Xmas accepts the sarrusophone as an addition to the underrepresented low register, "close enough for jazz." ;-)

Mine are: Gautrot-Marquet Eb contra; Triebert Bb bass; and Orsi Bb tenor. Does the Conn bocal not fit your Couesnon?

Enjoy!

Grant

Grant,

What time and where is the concert tomorrow?  The website I found must have been from last year, as it talks about its happening on Saturday, 12/20.  Please send a schedule and location, as I would like to watch.

Thanks,
Dean

There are two performances: the first is at 2:00 PM at "Christmas in the Park" on North 1st St. in San Jose. The second will be at 5 PM at ... a shopping mall somewhere. Usually this is Eastridge Mall in San Jose, but I have a vague recollection that it will be at Valley Fair instead this year. I'll ask Ray and report back.

For anyone interested in joining us, rehearsal is 9-12 on Saturday morning at Monroe Middle School, 1055 S. Monroe St., San Jose. You can reach Ray at saxophon@yahoo.com.

Enjoy!

Grant
