[Parts of this message are cross-posted to the "klarinet" list.]
I'm an amateur composer. Some of my compositions include
parts for bass winds. Unfortunately, SibeliusMusic.com now
requires all participating composers to agree to new "Terms and
Conditions" that subject us to unreasonable legal liability, in my
opinion. I'm unwilling to sign the terms as they're currently
written.
Yesterday, I wrote on the "klarinet" list,
>Fair warning -- If anybody has been thinking about listening
to any of my music compositions online or
>printing them out (free of charge), but you haven't gotten
around to it yet, please don't delay. That's
>because my web page (link below my signature) may be removed
from the SibeliusMusic.com
>self-publishing web site at any time.
I thought I could stall for a few days, and had intended to post
the same message here, this morning. However, the discussion I
initiated on the SibeliusMusic chat site doesn't seem to have swayed
either the Webmaster or most of the participants. The last
exchange, this morning, made clear that the majority in the chat group
either weren't convinced I was serious, or weren't taking my arguments
seriously. Stalling any longer, in the hope of somehow avoiding
those Terms and Conditions while still keeping the web site open,
seemed counterproductive. Therefore I made clear that I meant
what I'd written, by going back to the sign-up form and checking the
box for some formal equivalent of, "Buzz off." That means those
scores are online for only as long as it takes for the SibMus Webmaster
to get around to deleting them.
Before offering sheet music via snail mail, I'd like to wait a
bit and see whether the situation at SibMus mutates -- although my
sense of things right now is that the people in charge aren't going to
budge. Also, I prefer not to rely on common law copyright.
Since I'm losing the copyright protection inherent in self-publishing
the scores from a dated website, and have no way of being sure what
records SibMus may or may not retain, I need time to compile and
register a new "collected works" volume with the U.S. Copyright Office,
before I start snail-mailing anything. I'll announce if and when
my scores will be available again.

Subject: [CB] affordable low C bass clarinet!
I noticed that Woodwind and Brasswind has (brand new) Amati low
C bass clarinets--model ACL692S--for only $3,195! I have never
heard of a lo C bass clarinet for under $6,000 before. The
two customer reviews (both by the same person) say that the horn is top
pro quality and is easily playable in all registers. He claims to
have played bass clarinet for more than 35 years, so I would think he
knows what he's talking about. He rated the horn at 5 stars.
Do any of you have experience with or knowledge of this horn??
I had originally ordered the Vito BBb contrabass clarinet from
WW&BW, but after being disappointed with it, I sent it back.
So, I now have a credit of $2849. I am an organ performance
major, and since my second instrument has always been bass clarinet, I
have always dreamed of having my own low C horn. Since I am a
college student, I cannot afford to spend $6,000 or more for any of the
other low C horns! Now that I have found out about the Amati low
C at half the cost of the others, I am interested in purchasing it with
the credit I have at WW&BW. I just wondered if any of you had
any advice.?
Thanks,
Gregg Bailey

Someone at National Public Radio has found a Contra bass Sax
