There is a "Yahoo group" full of like-minded bassists, at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/multistringBASSIST/ , who have already addressed the problems inherent in approaching the infrasonic range on the bass. They might be helpful sources of information and/or inspiration regarding the plucked low end.
There's a low C# too, you know... ;-)
