I think they should try making an alto/baritone Tubax, pitched one octave
higher... talk about taking sax to new heights! /Ö

Scrolling down the same page presents the same instrument at a much higher
price.

And just above that second presentation there is this potentially more
interesting advertisement:

" I have a Selmer MkVI Bass Sax for sale. Excellent condition with spare
pads, springs, lots of reeds, floor stand and sling and good solid case.
Quick sale hence only £5900.00. Will meet half way if you want to view.

This may be a unique horn, belonging to Prof. Dr. Werner Schulze of Austria
(who, as a composer, has also written neat solos for Heckelphone, and Eb an
Bb contrabass sarrusophones.)

Wow... a BBBb tubax... Where do I sign up?

Not quite a contrabass instrument, but if anyone needs an oboe d'amore, I'm
selling one on eBay:

It's a Gordet, and quite a good instrument. Email me at marv_sandeye@hotmail.com
if you have any questions.

Hi,

some weeks ago I finally got my Eb Tubax from Eppelsheim here
in Munich :-) In his shop he had "fragments" of both the
C and the low Bb Tubax and he told me something about them. Both
should be finished in some months (judging from their present state)
The C Tubax seems to be a unique instrument (by now) and the Bb Tubax
is the second one Mr. Eppelsheim built. (He said I should keep this
confidential, but since it is obviously common knowledege on this
list that they (will) exist, I feel free to give some details)
Both instruments are designed similar to the Eb Tubax, so they'll
be bent twice like the Eb and just be built to scale 1/3 (Bb) larger,
than the Eb Tubax, which means it will be about 150 cm high. Its
weight also should scale so it probably will be (4/3)^2*10kg ~= 18kg.

Just like the Eb Tubax, both will have the written range bb-f#3,
sounding subcontra Bb to f# for the C tubax and subcontra Ab to e for
the Bb Tubax. Thus the Bb Tubax will be the lowest woodwind currently
in manufacture. Don't forget that Eppelsheim equips his instruments
with an additional altissimo vent adding a range of at least another
fifth to te top.

"Unfortunately" the Tubax is such a big success that Mr. Eppelsheim
is very busy now and the waiting time for a new Tubax will be
AT LEAST one year...

In a few weeks I'll have my Tubax page finished including a lot
of photos and sound clips, stay tuned :-)

Ciao, Fred
