Subject: [CB] Double Reed articles

The Double Reed, Vol. 24 No. 4 is now out, and contains articles by
Peter Hurd ("Heckelphones at Riverside", detailing the inaugural
meeting of the North American Heckelphone Society) and Robert Howe
("Historical Oboes Pt. 5").  Worth reading just for those two
articles.

Say Robert, what does a vox humana sound like?  Is it distinctly
different in timbre from an English horn?

I use Vandoren bass sax reeds (18.5 mm. wide) on my Selmer Eb contra-alto and
BBb contrabass clarinet mouthpieces, and Vandoren Bb contrabass clarinet
reeds (20 mm. wide) on my old-style Leblanc BBb contra mouthpiece.  The two
reeds have very much the same profile, so there's no reason you can't try the
20 mm. reeds on your contrabass sax.  At least it's worth a look-see.

Good luck.  Let us know if they fit.
