reminds me of Monty Pythons "News For Parrots," but anyway,

on the subject of Oboes -

I was talking with a friend (who used to play Oboe in the San Francisco area until
he had a stroke) about this list. He asked me if there was reference to the Bass
Oboe and I see a listing on the compendium - but no picture or further details other
than the Discography.  How would a "Bass Oboe" be different than something from the
Bassoon family?  (I guess I am not really up on the fine details/differences of most
double-reed instruments...)

any advanced research out there?
