Good album.  I've had the songs in my head since the day it came out (which
just happened to be Sept. 11).  I just saw them in concert on Oct. 19 at the
Riviera in Chicago.  I'm actually wearing the shirt that I bought there.
Keep listening.

I just noticed their notes (on the website) regarding "Older":

"We recently got to perform this song on the Conan O'Brien show, but
that was before we added the two instruments heard at the top. The
first one you hear is called a "Rauschpfife." It is then joined by
the strident Saroussophone, a 19th century substitute for the
Contrabassoon. Obligatory wisecracks about the reasons for their
current unpopularity have already been made and are unwelcome. The
song itself is just as current today as it was earlier today."

Enjoy,

Grant

Does anyone know if they still make 20Js?  The college marching band uses
20Js and they're in pretty bad shape.  I can't seem to find much about them
on the internet.

A good repairman can restore them to sometimes better than new condition. My first recommendation would be Ed Strege in Elkhorn, WI, also known as MRSTREGS on eBay. Ed also runs an instrument repair school called Badger State Repair School that has a great reputation. He's actually got 2 sousaphones in completely restored, like new condition on eBay right now: a  20K and a 14K. Look at his pictures!!!
Fix up those great old horns!!!

Subject: [CB] Sarrusophone FS!

The good news is that there is another sarrusophone for sale. However - it is a soprano.  Still, an interesting instrument.  The  owner inherited it from his grandfather.  It was apparently replated by Leblanc in the 1940's, unfortunately covering the maker's mark - nobody knows who made the instrument.  May need new pads.  I've put a couple of pictures up on the Yahoo sarrusophone club.  I should have another one up in a while - have to change the file format to upload it.

If anyone is interested, please let me know and I'll put you in touch with the owner.  I think he's looking to sell it for around US$3K or best offer.

Enjoy!
