Dear James Waterhouse,
I also play an Oscar Adler & Co contrabassoon for my county band. I really enjoy playing it but the design is a bit strange. I t goes down to B flat (not A) but the low B flat key is for the left-hand little finger instead of the thumb. I have been told that this is normally where a low A key is positioned. I find that this makes playing low B flats quite difficult as I have small hands. Does the contra you play have the same design. I would be interested to know because I find it quite unusual.

Here's one that looks like it will go *cheap* - a Getzen bugle (believed to be a GG contra) on with no reserve, current bid about $120.00. See http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1432133869
Enjoy!

Subject: hi there
My name is Juan Ignacio Caino. I'm new here so I'd like to introduce myself as a clarinet & saxophones player, I play from Eb sopranino clarinet to Bb bass clarinet, and from Bb soprano to baritone sax. I played bass sax a coulpe of times but I don't own the instruments. I also played a contra-bass sarrusophone some time ago. It's a freak but yet interesting instrument. I started to research about unusual instruments after listening to a Clarence William's record of "Mandy, Make Up Your Mind" in wich Sidney Bechet plays a contra sarrusophone.
Of course, I play jazz from old NO style to Be bop.
Best regards for everyone.

Are we talking George Jones or is this some other sort of country band?
I ask because I occasionally play bass sax & low clarinets with a folkish
group. This sounds like my kind of country music. Tell us about it.
