About the Kingma-system:

The revolutionary Brannen-Cooper/Kingma-system flute is a result of a collaboration between Eva Kingma and Bickford Brannen. First and foremost, it is a traditional Boehmsystem flute, with all of the usual fingerings and touch pieces. However, the addition of six new keys allows the flutist to play a nearly limitless variety of extended techniques, as well as the traditional repertoire.  The design of the instrument is made possible through the use of Eva Kingma's patented key-on-key system, which has been used succesfully on her altos and basses for many years. The new keys create hundreds of multiphonic possibilities and permit greatly improved flexibility in matching timbre and intonation in ensemble works. Slides, glissandi and other special effects are also facilitated. The Brannen/Kingma system flutes as well as Kingma-altos and -basses are now played all over the world.

About Matthias Ziegler:

Matthias Ziegler is one of the most versatile and innovative flutists of his generation. He is committed both to the traditional literature for flute as well as to contemporary music and concepts that cross the boundaries between classical music and jazz.  Accordingly, his performances take place in a vast range of contexts: he is principal flute of the Zurich Chamber Orchestra, has toured with Andreas Vollenweider and performs with the percussionist Pierre Favre. He is also a member of the "Collegium Novum Zurich", where he has worked with Mauricio Kagel, Heinz Holliger and George Crumb.  Concert tours have brought him to the US, Japan, Australia, South America and Israel. Many recordings on CD document his inclusive musical interests.  Searching for new sounds he enormously broadened the expressive potential of the traditional flute and the electroacoustically amplified contrabass flute.
Amplifying the flute allows him to increase the volume of the microsound structures of the flute to an audible level. Inspired by the new dimension of sounds of these instruments, composers such as Michael Jarrell from Switzerland, Benjamin Yusupov from Tadjikistan and the American Mark Dresser wrote flute concertos for Matthias Ziegler.

With many thanks to Bickford Brannen, Jim Phelan and Fernando Brandao who made those events possible.

Just ran across a new website for Magowan and Schüermer Historical Instruments, featuring among others the justifiably neglected schkänketto.  Yes, there *is* a double contrabass version.  See http://www.total.net/~lmagowan/

Enjoy!  ;-)

Hi Guys and Gals,

Is any member interested in a Conn baritone Saxophone, the specifics of which follow?  Gerry Mulligan played Conns; this saxophone, which has a wonderful rich sound, shows why.

The price is $1300.  Plays WONDERFULLY.

I am  also selling a Grafton plastic alto Saxophone (14000 series, wonderful condition) and a Bb soprano Sarrusophone (like new), the prices of which are negotiable.  Please write privately if you are interested in any of these.

All three go to Ebay in a fortnight if unsold, but I would much rather sell to a friend than on that greed-city.  I am urgently trying to sell a bunch of instruments to pay for a particular purchase.

Regards,

Robert Howe

Eb baritone Saxophone
Maker: Conn
Site of Manufacture: Elkhart
Serial:129201
Year of manufacture: 1924 ( according to Allied 1994 catalog)
System:  Range to high Eb, low Bb; has fork Eb, extra G#  mechanisms
Body:Nickel plate, excellent condition
Pitch: modern pitch
Condition: excellent condition overall
Case: original, excellent
Repair history: Full overhaul at purchase
Comments: Plays very well with a warm, mellow sound.  A pity that the high E and F are not on it, it would be a fully professional horn if it had them. High E, F and F# can be obtained as alternate fingerings.  Has a period mouthpiece.

Yep.  Make sure to listen to the MP3s - they've gone "all out" to recreate some historically accurate works.  (Or was that "hysterically accurate"...)
