Subject: [CB] Sarrusophone!!!!

I had a near religious experience today.  It turns out the my university (UT
Arlington) has a Conn Eb Contrabass Sarrusophone.  I had known of its
existence for a couple of months but was a bit skeptical as I had not seen
it.  Well, all doubt was wiped away today as not only did I see it, but
through the modification of my only contrabassoon reed I played it.  The
horn is in immaculate condition, a beautiful satin silver finish, with a
gold interior in the bell.  The pads seem to be of a horn that has never
seen any use and are as fresh as the day they were put on.  There is even a
single reed mouthpiece that for all I can tell is the original, since it is
labeled Conn and looks like no other mouthpiece that I have ever seen (sort
of like a small sax mpc. with a cork tube running off of the back).  The
only thing that is slightly wrong are a couple of dings in the bocal.  It
seemed to play pretty well in tune with itself (although the reed I was
using probably didn't give the best results) and had a clear tone for the 2+
octaves that I was able to get out.  As you can tell I am ecstatic about
this horn and completely surprised by the shape that its in for being around
80 years old.

Dear Brett;
You lucky dog you! I have been trying to lay my hands on a
Sarrusophone for years. Tell me what it would take to bribe you into letting
me play it some day.

Well, I don't have total access to it, but you may want to talk with our
band director.  E-mail me privatly and I'll give you his e-mail address, and
possibly more info.

P.S. This goes to anyone else (although I don't really think our director
would go for a bunch of people congregating to see our mythological beast).
