Subject: [CB] Milt Hinton dies at age 90
Milt (aka "Frump" and "The Judge") Hinton has died at age 90. There's a good
obituary of him, by Bart Barnes, in today's Washington Post, at
http://washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/metro/obituaries/A34454-2000Dec20.html
In the print edition, the obituary is in the Metro Section, for Thursday,
December 21, 2000, p.B07. Hinton was most renowned as a jazz string bass
player, with Cab Calloway, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and many other jazz
greats -- but he also played tuba and bass sax! He got the nickname "The
Judge" because he enforced such strict standards of punctuality on fellow
musicians in the recording studio. RIP....Lelia
