Yep, sounds pretty similar - dueling ostinatos (ostanati?) :-)

>If you have any other info about these pieces bring it on!

-Mozart / Overture to the Magic Flute
This is scored for F flute, 2 flutes d'amore, 2 alto flutes, bass flutes in C and F, and contrabass flute.  I assume the work itself is familiar enough...

-Denisov / Variations on a theme by Mozart
This work is scored for 4 flutes, 2 alto flutes, and 2 bass flutes. This work, written in 1990, has a definite 20th Century approach to harmony after the opening statement of the theme.  Mozart on tone clusters...

-Mozart / Ein Orgelstück für eine Uhr
Scored for 2 flutes, 2 flutes d'amore, alto flute, bass flutes in C and F, and contrabass flute.  A pretty straightforward, conventional interpretation.

-Kost / Intermezzo
This one is arranged for piccolo down to subbass in G (perhaps we should call that "contralto", as in clarinet nomenclature).  A definitely 20th Century work (1989) from the first notes, in rhythm, melody, and harmony.  A very interesting work.

-Bach / Ricercare a Sei
Scored for 2 flutes, 2 alto flute, 3 bass flutes (C and F), and contrabass flute.  Another straightforward, solid arrangement of a classic Bach fugue.

-Reich / Vermont Counterpoint
Scored for 11 flutes, typical Reich.

-Sch=F6nberg / Kanons (Nos. 8, 13, 15, 16, 22, 26, 28, and 29)
The instrumentation isn't specified for each Kanon: the notes say only piccolo to contrabass.  (Actually, the notes say "Piccolo to Counterbass Flute" - for some reason, they've consistently translated "contrabass" as "counterbass".)  The Kanons represented here are a collection of mainly short (only one is over 2 minutes long, and three are less than a minute) pieces.  Much more melodic than I expected from Schönberg, real dissonance doesn't appear until around Kanon XXII.

All in all, I have to say I like all of the selections.  Turned out to be a very good CD :-)
