Subject: [CB] 4th of July concert

The SAN JOSE WIND SYMPHONY under the direction of founding conductor Darrell
Johnston celebrates the Fourth of July with a FREE concert on Tuesday, July
4, 2000 at 1:30 PM on the Los Gatos High School Lawn.

The 1812 will be played WITH cannons...

Aside from the 1812, its a pretty light concert, with singers for the
Phantom,  La Mancha, and Someone.  I'm bringing an Eb contralto
clarinet for the Wizard, and playing Bb bass on all the rest.

Come and enjoy!

Subject: [CB] Stiller Instrumentation Handbook

I'd like to second Mr. Stiller's suggestion to look at his instrumentation handbook. I checked it out from my university library so often I began to feel guilty for depriving everyone else of such a thorough, thoughtful, informative, and entertaining instrumentation guide- I finally bought my own copy.  Good stuff!

Both are available and not uncommon, available for less than $3000.  I
paid $800 for one of my sopranini

One sold in Manhattan last month, new, for $35,000.  Not to me, sadly.

I just sold my second one, if you want one I can get you one.  They were
made in England and are common in British auctions.

How about really rare Saxophones, those made by Adolphe Sax himself in
Paris before 1870?  Would you have any of those in your collection?
